We don’t report on too many aunt and uncle stories here at PBB mostly because we blog about parents. However, we’ll make an exception with this story since Katherine Bunnell was taking care of her nephew, Thomas ”T.J.” Wright while his mom was in prison.
Seems that Bunnell beat her three-year-old nephew to death after she came home from a night of drinking with her live-in boyfriend, Gilbert Delestre. You see she was a little mad to find that he spilled yogurt and milk in living room and made a mess.
She was so pissed that she dragged the little boy out of his bed, pulled him him down the stairs, and hit him so hard that he repeatedly toppled over and slammed his head on the flour. Finally, Bunnell poured milk on his head and threw him six feet across the room. T.J. was left left slumped against a wall, whimpering and struggling to breathe.
Delestre immediately called 911 for help. Bunnell hung up the phone then tried to stop him from resuscitating the boy after he stopped breathing. Later she blamed her boyfriend for inflicting the injuries.
An autopsy revealed that T.J. had a broken leg, brain damage and multiple blunt force injuries. Poor kid. According to the Rhode Island attorney general, it was the most brutal beating he’d ever seen in his professional experience.
Bunnell faces 10 years to life in prison. I hope she gets it.
