Maria Joseph Arrested for Murder of Toddler and Setting House and Kids on Fire

maria-joseph.jpgIn Colorado Springs, Colorado, police arrested Maria Joseph, 25, on suspicion of first-degree murder for killing her 16-month-old daughter, Ashia M. Joseph.

Maria had set her home and her kids on fire then called 911. Police found her a block from the home covered in superficial and self-inflicted wounds to her wrists, arms, neck and left ankle.

Four of her children — Dontrell Gardner, 9; Domenic Gardner, 8; Supreme Joseph, 5; and Amarjahan Joseph, 3 — are critical condition with severe burns. Dontrell and Amarjahan were flown to the Shriners Hospital in Galveston, Texas. Burns covered 85 percent one child’s body and 15 percent of the other’s. The other two are at The Children’s Hospital in Colorado and are listed in stable and improving condition.

In the 911 call, one of the children can be heard saying, “Why did you kill him?” Also, a child told dispatchers that “oil” was on fire, everyone in the house was hurt, and a 10-year-old boy was dead.

An autopsy determined that Ashia Joseph died of smoke inhalation and burns - injuries are desscribed as “charred.”

Something really bad has been going on with this family. In October, the father of the three youngest children, Simeon Joseph, 27, committed suicide. And now their mom has only made it worse for those poor kids.
