In Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Michal James, 27, is facing homicide charges in the death of her three-year-old daughter, Patricia Elaine James.
James is accused of ongoing physical abuse including hitting her daughter with a belt and tying her hands to bedposts with scarves. When emergency crews responded to Michal James’ 911 call, they found that the little girl was already dead and covered in bruises.

The coroner’s office ruled the toddler’s death a homicide. The corner’s report stated that Patricia died from neglect (she was very underweight), abuse and asphyxiation.
At the time of the toddler’s death, James was eight months pregnant. She also had a five-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter living at home with her. No mention of the dad (or dads) is given.
James’s mother, who also lives in the home, said she would often tell her daughter not to hit the kids. Grandma told police she did not hear any of the abuse happening. (Not unusual. If she’s like many older folks, she may have hearing problems, and she said she had a fan, an a/c unit, and the TV on.)
James has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.
